The 2000 LeSabre was introduced in 1999 as the Buick LeSabre 2000 on the G-body. Following the end of the 2000 model year, the automobile reverted to the Buick LeSabre nameplate.

The LeSabre was manufactured at GM's Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly factory in Hamtramck, Michigan on an updated revision of the G platform also shared with the Pontiac Bonneville and the 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora. Among the significant changes made to the LeSabre over the previous generation was a grille that did not open with the hood, an overall stiffer structure thanks to the new chassis, and smaller overall dimensions with slightly large interior room.

In 1997, what would become the last Century made, still a front wheel drive V6-powered configuration. The platform switched from the aging A-body to the W-body. Only a four-door sedan was offered, the coupe and wagon variants having vanished. In this generation, the Century and Regal were exactly the same car, distinguished only by trim and engine differences. Since the Century was lower-priced than the Regal, it was also the lower-powered and plainer of the two. Nevertheless, the design was well-proportioned and the car retained its reputation for quality. After the 1998 discontinuation of the Skylark, the Century for the first time became Buick's entry-level car. Buick tried to position the Century as a lower-priced alternative to Japanese family sedans like the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.

Automotive designers in 1999 foresaw a 2009 populated by compressed natural gas-powered cars, huge 16-cylinder engines and crossover vehicles. At least they got one right. Let's hop into the time machine-like lens of hindsight to visit ten concept cars from 1999 and determine how close they came to reality.

This 1963 Buick Riviera belonged to the original owner for the first 41 years and he kept meticulous records of every service and repair. The car still has more than 50% of its original paint and runs and drives but has seen little use in the last 10 years. Find it here on eBay in St. Louis, Missouri.

The Buick Signia concept was first revealed at the 1998 Detroit Motor Show. It was intended to be a versatile family vehicle with luxurious appointments Inside the spacious interior of the Signia was a range of tasteful and high quality materials and a clever computer system which allowed different drivers to save their preferences in the vehicle. Upon startup the operator would login - like on a computer, and the car would then adjust the seating and steering wheel positions, climate control and radio settings to suit the specified driver.

Unfortunately the exterior styling of the Buick Signia was monumentally ugly, it looked like a cross between a
Pontiac Aztek and the Aurora safety car. Awkward style lines collided with bulbous body panels, and the disjointed window lines did even further damage to the Signia's kerb appeal.

More changes were in store for the 1953, 1954, 1955, and 1956 Buick Roadmaster. The compact dimensions of the V-8 engine enabled Buick to fit the 1953 Roadmaster to the shorter wheelbase of the Super, though styling differences were relatively minor.

In its heyday during the 1950s, Motorama delivered G.M.'s message of postwar optimism to millions of curious spectators. The 1938 Buick Y-Job was the first such dream car. The best ideas graduated to production models, while the turbine engines and titanium body panels never made it past the pages of Popular Science. Most notable on the 1954 Buick Wildcat II are its expanded wheel wells.

The origins of the Roadmaster name date to 1936 when Buick renamed its entire model line-up to celebrate the engineering improvements and design advancements over their 1935 models. Buick's Series 40 model range became the Special, the Buick Century took the place of the Series 60 and the Series 90 — Buick's largest and most luxurious vehicles — became the Limited. Buick's Series 80 became the Roadmaster.

Introduced to mark Buick's 50th anniversary, the Buick Skylark (first use of the name for a production vehicle) on one of three specialty convertibles produced in 1953 by General Motors; the other two were the Oldsmobile Fiesta and the Cadillac Eldorado. All three were limited production vehicles promoting General Motors' design leadership. Of the three, the Skylark had the most successful production run with 1,690 produced. This was considered quite an amazing sales feat, for the car had a list price in 1953 of slightly in excess of US$5,000. However, many languished in dealer showrooms and were sold at discount.

In 1954 the Buick Landau show car was built on a Roadmaster chassis and was reminiscent of the classic landaus from the 1930s. The chauffeur’s compartment was in blue leather and sealed off by a divisional electric window. The rear compartment had beige leather with mutton carpeting. Note the leather straps on the padded trunk and the landau top, which was hydraulically operated. The spare tire could be found in a compartment that was behind the swing-down rear bumper.
